Basic tutorial on how to add glow effect to text in photoshop

In this tutorial we are going to learn how to add glow effect to your text without using any blending options.

Step1

open a new document of any size

in this tutorial 1280 x 720 @ 200pixels/inch

Step 2

choose foreground color #126595 and background black #000000

select the gradient tool (round gradient)

click on center of canvas and take it to extreme side and release

you will get the following effect

Step 3

create a new text layer with desired font

then you will get something like this

create a copy of the text layer

ctrl +J or drag and drop the text layer on new layer icon

Step 5

now rasterize the copy of text layer

layer>rasterize or by right clicking on text layer thumbnail

Step 6

select the copied text layer which we had rasterized

go to filter>blur>gaussian blur and enter the following settings

the radius of pixels can vary according to the resolution of the image

after applying the gaussian blur we will get following results

Step 7

if you feel the glow is not enough just make a copy a blurred layer and again apply gaussian blur filter with a little higher settings
